Princess Diana - bright light shone into driver's eyes 'killed' her

It was Malaysia's Independence Day when it happened. The year was 1997 on August 31 when I first learned about Princess Diana's death from the auto accident in a Paris tunnel. I remember dropping what I was doing then and glued myself to the telly in disbelief watching the news unfold with shots of the mangled Mercedes Benz in the Paris tunnel. It was surreal.

A couple of months ago, I read about Scotland Yard reopening the case and yesterday it was all over that the princess's death was an alleged plot to have her killed by an elite British Army unit and that they had been monitoring Diana, 36, and boyfriend Dodi Fayed, 42, and chose to carry out the assassination in a tunnel.

But an inquiry heard the romance was not opposed by either the British royal family or any other branch of government. A post-mortem also found that Diana was not pregnant.

The ex-wife of a former SAS soldier told detectives that her husband had claimed that the "hit" had been carried out on the orders of individuals within the royal inner circle because they didn’t approve of Diana’s relationship with Dodi Al Fayed.

Soldier N as he has been referred to confessed to his wife that Princess Diana was assassinated and that a bright light was shone into the Paris car she was being driven in.

Soldier N decided to confide in his wife after taking Prince William on an SAS advanced driving course that same year but swore her to secrecy but she told her mother the extraordinary story after their divorce.

He told his wife that a former colleague, who had since left the SAS, was involved in the plot and that a motorbike and white car were used.

"We were talking about it and I was saying how lovely it was that Princes William and Harry were doing so well and that it was sad that their mum wasn't here to see it," the wife reportedly told Scotland Yard detectives last month, Britain's Sunday Mirror newspaper reports.

"Then he said one of the guys was responsible for the accident, for the death of Diana. I was shocked. I believed what he said."

"He also said that it very nearly didn’t happen. When I asked how anyone could do something like that he said, ‘It’s an order, a job’s a job’. He said that it had to happen in the tunnel to guarantee death. He said that it looked bad so they left," the wife said.

The allegations first surfaced two months ago during the court martial of another SAS veteran who was convicted of illegal possession of a weapon and ammunition. Detectives have since interviewed Soldier N's ex-wife and former mother-in-law.

The army unit reportedly is able to kill by shining high density beams into the eyes of targets to either cause road accidents or disorientate victims so they could be killed in another way.

In 2008, a British jury ruled that Diana and Fayed were unlawfully killed due to reckless speed and drinking by their driver, and by the reckless pursuit of paparazzi chasing them.

At a 2007 inquest, Francois Levistre claimed that a motorcycle pulled up to the car and directed a light into the vehicle before the Mercedes ploughed into a wall, but his evidence was disregarded at the time because he was not considered a reliable witness and no other witness reported seeing a flash.

At Harrods in London, one of its windows is dedicated to Princess Diana and Dodi Al Fayed, whose father owned the luxury department store. Harrods was sold in 2010 for £1.5 billion; half of the sale used to pay bank debts of £625 million. (Wikipedia)
