Oversized bags are definitely in. I read that what you carry in your bag tells a lot about you. Women carry a lot of stuff or is it fluff? Probably we think we have to be ready to save the world so we need all those tools or is it because we simply enjoy lugging around some extra weight or worse, we are just the lesser organized gender.
If your bag should spill its guts what would fall out? Would it be a book (to read while waiting in line for some appointment), a phone or two or even three (why not!), a pair of spare stockings, your vanity bag, an ipod perhaps, pens, one earring whose pearl has seen better days, a broken brooch, a half-eaten muesli bar, dog-eared brochures, a watch that shows five hours behind, a compass (that too, who knows!). What else?
