Children - A Source of Beauty

There are too many unpleasant things in the world. Thank goodness for children. They make up a big portion of the beauty in this world.

We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.

Children are one third of our population and all of our future.

You are worried about seeing him spend his early years in doing nothing. What! Is it nothing to be happy? Nothing to skip, play, and run around all day long? Never in his life will he be so busy again.

Children are unpredictable. You never know what inconsistency they're going to catch you in next.

Never fear spoiling children by making them too happy. Happiness is the atmosphere in which all good affections grow.

We cannot fashion our children after our desires, we must have them and love them as God has given them to us.

  1. Children are always beautiful, desirable and innocent...their alluring power diminishes as they grow older.

With that thought in mind, what do you think of "designer children" (i.e. engineered in a test tube) or people selectively aborting their children if they find out they have the wrong qualities (wrong blood type, Down's Syndrome, female, etc.)?

Being a schoolteacher can make one cynical toward children...but I still love 'em.

  4. There is such a schism between us in the developed world and our dreams for children vs the reality of the third world where a child dies every 5 seconds from hunger related causes. Same planet, different world.

  5. Joe, yeah, we should know. We were once children. LOL!

Z, children are indeed a gift.

MM, designer children to me is something against the grain of nature. I believe in karma and rebirth so laws that govern these would still over-rule designer children.

I read sometime back about people in Japan (probably not widespread) choosing their mate by their blood type. This is quite an interesting concept as according to research, there is a set pattern of behaviour attached to each blood type/group and it would make sense to be matched up with a mate that is compatible to one. However, the report did not cover results.

As for selective abortion, if it's done from a medical standpoint, I have no qualms but aborting a baby just because of the gender is totally unacceptable. The latter could be happening in China due to the one-child policy. It's very sad. I read that China is facing an imbalance of genders in the younger generation - there are more boys than girls.

MM, I think you are in the right profession in that you are so talented thus have so much to give to the children. Your students are a lucky lot. Your own children too. Keep up the good work.

Come to think of it, I am lucky too to know you. Thank you for being, MM.

  6. PandaB, so true. The schism is not getting smaller I see. People preach human rights, peace, hunger-prevention, and so forth but actual 'ground zeroes' are not reached. Nations are at war, spending money on nuclear stuff, building tallest buildings to beat each others, and lots of other mega-projects while people are dying every minute. What a paradox this world is! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
